Best Parts About Being a Boy Mom

Growing up a tomboy, it made sense that God might grant me the opportunity to be a boy mom. But never could I have imagined the powerful sense of joy and pride I would feel holding the title of boy mom. Being a parent is amazing, regardless of gender, but all I know are boys, and I’ve learned the best things about being able to raise little guys.

1.    The activity – Boy are active, so get ready to keep up. But with that comes keeping yourself young and fun. Everything is go, go, go at 100 miles per hour. One minute, you’ll be throwing a touchdown pass and getting tackled. The next, you’ll be wrestling away the tickle monster. Rough and tough play is where it’s at with boys.

2.    The unconditional love – You are their first love, and the love they show you back is unlike any you will ever and have ever experienced. The love-at-first-sight feeling is real and hits you like a ton of bricks the first time you hold or hug your son. And it doesn’t change when you have another son, either. You’ll still feel that same love even if your boys are very different people.

3.    The jokes – Boys are so silly, and so are all their fart and poop jokes. They teach you not to take life too seriously while also opening you up to a different level of comedy you weren’t privy to before entering the boy brain.

4.    The education – If there was a trivia night that focused on construction vehicles or dinosaurs, you could just hand the trophy my way. Before boys, I knew your basic dump truck or T-Rex, but after boys, I can explain the difference between an excavator and a front loader while also having no problem spelling or pronouncing diplodocus. Their interests become your interests; with that, you get an education in things you didn’t know as much about before.

5.    The hair ease – My mother is a trained and talented hairdresser. Me, not so much. I’m thankful my boys like their hair short and without product. I can work a comb like nobody’s business and am grateful I can’t mess their hair up too badly. Do I think bows are the cutest thing in a little girl’s hair? Absolutely! Am I glad I don’t have to maneuver or manage them? Yes.

6.    The emulation of dad – How they look up to my husband is unlike anything I could’ve anticipated. They seek their dad’s approval in everything they do. From how they write their b’s to how they hit a baseball, having dad look on in admiration of them makes their day, and honestly, mine too.

Parenting comes with all the love and challenges you can’t even imagine until you’re given the job of mom or dad. If you’re a boy mom, take in all the boy cuddles and hugs; they are the best! Bonus benefit: Enjoy the ease of public restrooms for your little dudes – a bonus gift of having boys.
